I apologize for this being a lengthy post but I have penned down the events during my GMAT exam as is..
Here goes....
Unfortunately the following incident happened during the exam. I started my exam with the Quant section and I was doing pretty well in terms of time. I finished my exam with 5-6 minutes still left and so I decided to ask for a new booklet for verbal as the current one had only 2 pages remaining. Now reading up tips and tricks from various posts online, I use a grid method to eliminate options in verbal and so i decided to get a new booklet and create that grid on each page.
I put my hand up for the proctor, she saw me from outside and I pointed that I need a new booklet. She came in with one and took the old one. While I started to create that grid I noticed that the 5th and the 6th page had scratchings on them, i signaled to the proctor again. In the meantime when she was organizing for a new booklet, I noticed that it was only those two pages and I wont need the whole booklet for verbal. As I had already created the grid on 4-5 pages it will be a waste of time for me to make them again on the fresh booklet. She came in again with a new booklet and I told her not to change it. During all this my exam was running, sitting on the last page with my answer selected waiting to hit the next option and confirm it and then take my break.
As i was just finishing up organizing myself for the next section, i put my hand up. She came in with the booklet again thinking I have thought otherwise. The booklet was just lying on the table and I was about to reach out for the mouse to finish the quant section with about 30-40 seconds left, she grabbed the booklet to replace it. With the exam still sitting on quant section last page, because she was taking my booklet I mentioned to her that I will be taking my scheduled break after this section. Hearing this she reached out for the keyboard, hit a shortcut and the username and password prompted on the screen. I told her that I was about to finish up that section and she tried to cancel that username password prompt but it wouldn't go away. Behind the prompt the exam finished up when it reached the time limit and there was another prompt. She clicked on ok and said don't worry that has gone through and I will put you on a break now. She put in the username and password and selected few options on the screen, the screen was blank at this moment with blue background only. She told me that I can go on my break.
After I came back from the break, some other proctor let me in, he went up to the computer to start the exam. As I sat down, i saw a prompt on the screen and I clicked yes. Now this is the time when my actual break started with my face showing up on the screen and the clock ticking below it. I put my hand up, he came in did something and I was on the instructions page. As he left the room I clicked on next to start the next section. Now i was shown the first question of verbal section and to my horror when I glanced over to look at the time it showed 68 minutes. I put my hand up again, the proctor came in to assist me and I told him what just happened. He said thats because you took a longer break around 15 minutes according to him. I corrected him but he said it again which infuriated me.
Anyways I continued on with my test after this needless to say with my mind running crazy and not be able to focus on the exam. After my verbal finished up,i left the room. I didn't want to discuss about what just happened with 2 more sections to go but the proctor decided that apparently this was the right time to discuss. He mentioned again that he checked and that I took a longer break. I seriously coudn't take this **** anymore. Anyways I told him I will be email about this whole issue. While escorting me in for the last section, he was showing me this is how my computer should look like when I'm taking a break with my pic on the screen. I'm really sorry but this is not my job, if I have to take care of these things as well then i might as well set up a few cameras at home and run exam from there.
After the exam while I was escorted out of the building I had a discussion with the proctor. After listening to the incident, he apologized on her behalf and said that she is still in training and when she heard that I want a break she might have put me on an unscheduled break as they are under stress to do things as quickly as possible. Unfortunately for me, pearson training people in live scenarios will cost me probably one year of my time as some of the universities I was targeting have their deadlines coming up soon.
I have reported this incident to pearson but they keep coming back saying no consideration will be provided without explaining anything.
I just need some advice or suggestions about what to do.
Got 50 on quant and 28 on verbal!
