Re: Kaplan Quiz Bank or OG for last 2.5 weeks of prep? [#permalink]
if you have 2.5 weeks left is there any particular section you can improve upon until then? like sc,rc,cr etc? For me I basically went through the basics on topics i was weak on and then worked mostly on questions focused on the weak areas. If you have a very high quant score then you might need to focus more questions on verbal instead. Also, if you can be discouraged easily by a low score i suggest not taking a CAT a day or 2 before the test so you can go take the test with a "neutral" mind

Thanks for your helps guys.

As for the difficulty of Kaplan's Quiz Bank, it ranges from Low to High. It lets you choose if you want Low, Medium, or High level difficulty. It also lets you pick which question types you want. So in:

RC, it lets you pick Business, Social Sciences, Sciences, etc.
SC: lets you pick which errors you want to test yourself on
CR: Different CR Types

Quant: PS or DS and then split by topics such as NP, Geo, Arith, Algebra. However, it doesn't split topics further down - so Geo cannot be split into Triangles, Polygons. This is one drawback.

But overall, I really liked Quiz Bank. I has 1400 questions which means you can create almost 19 "informal" CATs (1400/74). What I like the most is that the questions are on-screen and in same format and look like a CAT. So, you can write 37 Geometry focused questions followed by 37 CR questions and it builds you the stamina of writing a CAT.

But the question language is slightly off from OG questions, so I think I'll be focusing on OG for the next 2 weeks.

Use of OG and Gmatprep is highly advisable for the days nearer to your exam.
Hi gurpeet,

I'm actually going to disagree with you on this point.

You're right that the OG is an incredibly valuable resource. The problems there are the best--though Kaplan is the best in the business when it comes to test-like questions, the OG has questions from the test and can't be beat. So when you're trying to get a feel for the test and learn to master your test-taking skills, the OG is the place to go.

But in the days leading up the exam, you should have already mastered your test taking skills. The days before the exam are centered on making sure that you can apply those skills under test-like conditions, and that you are well-paced and calm under time constraints. Working out of a book with a kitchen timer doesn't cut it. The Kaplan quiz bank, however, lets you set up both short practices and long ones with a timer just like that on the GMAT to monitor your progress.

So LoveTheGmat, to answer your question--with 2.5 weeks, anything you need to cover, any holes in your studying or questions that make you nervous, start NOW. Because once that last week begins, trying to learn any brand new material or strategies will be counterproductive.

Anyway, whatever your choose, keep working hard and good luck on Test Day!
