Jon,

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually appreciate the frankness of your post. It's exactly what I was looking for.

I knew my lack of substantial, and meaningful, work experience would be a serious hurdle to overcome. I was hoping that my international experience, leadership roles, and a possible high GMAT could put me over the hump. I suppose schools such as INSEAD are stock full of people like this who also have the work experience.

So, if I can score 720+ would you recommend I take a long shot at IMD and INSEAD? Also, could you recommend schools that could help me transition into international business that I should aim for with a score around 700? IE, Erasmus, HEC, Essec, etc.

Cheers

From what I have seen about IMD, I'd skip it. They take people with a LOT of experience 5+ years, and seem to lean heavy towards family company and industry. INSEAD from what I have seen is far more flexible, and if you can write a truly amazing application you may have a shot (INSEAD puts a lot of stock in story), even if it's a long one. HEC, ESSEC, IE should be all quite a bit easier than the other schools, and far more flexible, so if your goal is international, they can be excellent choices (with that good GMAT of course!!!!)

Other than that, in the US "International Business" is really no different from a regular MBA. Where it starts to make a difference is if you KNOW you want to work outside of the US, then to pursue options in business schools in that region, or from which graduates go to that region, as International B-schools tend to have a lot more mobility than US B-schools.
