Much of the time, success on the GMAT results from self-awareness. We have to become self-aware regarding what we do that hurts our performance and learn to catch ourselves before we do it.
You know you have this pattern. So, as you practice RC, be aware that you tend to start going on a tangent related to thinking about how your situation is related to the passage, and practice catching yourself and riding out the urge to go on such a tangent.
Over time, you'll find that the urge to start doing that type of thinking becomes weaker, and that you can quickly catch yourself and get back on track any time you begin to fall into that pattern.

Lack of concentration during any activity (including meditation) can be remedied by this - whenever you catch yourself digressing, bring your focus back. Do it again and again without getting frustrated. Over time, you will need to do it less and less. If I want to do a certain task without distractions, I like to give myself less time than I would actually like (for example, let me finish this before lunch). When we feel we have less time, suddenly all our attention comes to that one point. We subconsciously tell ourselves that though that is something I do want to think about but this is not the time. Let me get done with this first.
