Dunchess, my profile is same as you (well pretty much) i got a Q40. I m sure we can do better. Just need to formulate a proper game plan addressing your weakness in Q.

Your quant score is very low for a CPA and Big4. Verbal is fantastic. Wrong career or really bad gmat prep?
Usually there are only so many patterns to GMAT questions - there are unusual ones, but they don't come in until 700+ level.

If you are confident in your math skills, then you can work on the questions and maintain an excellent error log - copy, print, bind every question you missed and make sure you can solve it - also, eliminate any of the careless mistakes.

What have you used for your prep? Which books/materials?

Tell me about it...I probably am not totally in the right career, hence the MBA, but that being said ace'd my CPA and always get stellar evaluations from work so I know that quant score should be much higher. I think that I started out strong in math on the test but I took too much time when answering the first few questions, and left one blank (by accident I didn't notice my one second left). Book wise I used the Kaplan Live Online, the book put out by the GMAT folks, and Kaplan Advanced.

Good to know I am not the only one, it is hilarous to me that one score can be high and the other one so bad! I think I am going to buy one of the basic math books recommended on this site and make sure my skills are solid. I also really need to work on timing so I think that means buying a stop watch and sitting down for timed quant sections to mimic the feel of testing. Blegh more studying...

Got it. Looks like you may need a bit more theory and specific gmat question types. I am guessing DS is the hardest?

You may want to try MGMAT Number Properties - many good things have been said about it. Other MGMAT guides may be helpful as well. Have you used OG 12?

Also, other possible books are PR 1012 and Kaplan Math Workbook.

Probably would focus on Arithmetic and Word Problems at first.

You should also keep a good error log and make sure you know how to solve every single question you encounter. If you can't solve it in 30-60 seconds, make sure you memorize the question so that you don't have to think about it during tests.

Thanks so much for your help! I have jumped back into my studies and incorporated a lot of the tips I found on the website and ones you recommended, hopefully it works out the second time around.
