2. The increase in the cost of a laser diode was the same as the decrease in the cost of a micro-controller.
L(1+x/100)=M(1−y/100)
L+Lx/100=M−My/100
This is not correct as here you are comparing cost after increment and decrement
But what is given is increase in the cost of laser same as decrease in cost of micro-controller
So it should be =>
Lx/100 = My/100
again percentage will come as 0

I have no idea why anyone would word Statement 1 that way, but all it says is that L/M = y/x, so Lx = My. If that's true, then Lx/100 = My/100. Now L(x/100) is the increase in the price of one laser diode, and M(y/100) is the decrease in the cost of one micro-controller. If the increase in the cost of each diode equals the decrease in the cost of each controller, then if we use the same number of each component, the overall cost will be the same as it was last year. So the overall cost didn't change, and Statement 1 is sufficient.

Statement 2 tells us the same thing in a simpler way, so the answer is D.

Sir, what if the price of diode (L) was much greater than the price of controller (M)? Wouldn't that be a consideration?
