Evaluate type Yes: Should strengthen the conclusion No: Should cast doubt on the conclusion Fact: Last year, in order to boost the output of wheat crop, the Government of Nashville has subsidized the fertilizers sold to Wheat farmers. Fact: Data shows that fertilizer sales have increased significantly last year and that Wheat output has increased by more than 50% compared to the previous year Conclusion in Question: wheat output is because more farmers used higher amounts of fertilizers, Prethink: If some 10 people bought fertilizer did they experience any change in production?
A. Did the fertilizer sales last year increase by at least 50% compared to the sales the year before? OOS: Fertilizers were sold more than previous year, as mentioned "Data shows that fertilizer sales have increased significantly" Even if I answer Yes or No to this, what will I get ?Nothing
B. Was the revenue from the increased output of wheat enough to offset the money farmers had to spend on buying more fertilizers? OOS: The question is not concern about profit. It is not mentioned so why to worry about it. Yes or No to this also results in nothing
C. Were there any farmers who bought less than usual amount of fertilizer last year? OOS: Suppose someone bought less fertilizer, what we will do with this information? Nothing. We don't know what was the output for that person.
D. Whether the wheat output per acre from farmers who used more fertilizer last year than they did the year before is significantly more than the wheat output per acre from farmers who did not use more fertilizer last year than they did the year. Correct:Clear winner, if there is a difference in per acre production of wheat due to fertilizer then this helps. E. Did the government have to incur losses in order to subsidize the fertilizers last year? OOS: Government losses are of no concern here to anyone
