One thing I’ve noticed while looking at MBA applications is that some of the strongest profiles on paper can be surprisingly difficult to explain as an MBA story.
Good employer. Strong test score. Solid promotions. Interesting projects.
But then you ask: Why MBA? Why now? Why LBS? And where does all of this lead?
That’s where things can get a little messy.
For an LBS application, I think it’s worth stepping back and asking yourself:
1. Can I explain how my past experiences have shaped the career direction I’m pursuing next?
2. If I removed the LBS name from my application, would my reasons for choosing London and the school still make sense for my goals?
3. Am I clear about what I would learn from and contribute to a genuinely international student community?
You don’t necessarily need a perfectly linear career. In fact, plenty of interesting careers aren’t linear. The important part is whether you understand the connections between the different chapters.
