How you review the MBA program of Imperial and Warwick vs MIM program of LBS

Admissionado
Hi Garima999999999,

There is a lot more that goes into a profile review, but just taking the GMAT into consideration here:

How confident are you that you can increase your score in February? If it's a toss-up, then apply in the 3rd round. If you're sure you can bump up the score at least 30-50 points, then go with the 4th round.

I would say wait until the 4th round for LBS. Though that does diminish your chances, a 650 is a below average score for them and might be a dealbreaker.

Imperial and Warwick are much more attainable with a 650. Again, we'd need to see more of your profile to understand if there are aspects of your background that can help get you over the finish line.

Unfortunately, I am not terribly well-versed on the nuances of these MIM programs. They all are under established universities, so my guess is you can't go wrong with any of them. MIM programs are becoming increasingly popular as alternatives to MBA programs and by themselves. I expect they will get even better over time.

That all being said, what is your criteria? Besides being in the UK, how do you evaluate fit for yourself? What would you like to know about these schools?

If you're looking for professional help with your upcoming applications and want to speak with one of our MIM experts, we would be happy to connect you for a free consultation. Please use the link below to sign up for one:

MiM LBS much stronger than MBA at Imperial or Warwick. LBS is also much stronger reputation & alumni.

Hi Garima999999999 , would be great if you can share more about yourself - your education, work experience and other interesting aspects of your profile so that I can guide you in taking the right call. Oblivious to above information, I would recommend you improve your GMAT and target MIM program at LBS in the next round. The LBS tag would set you up for stellar work opportunities and an extensive professional global network of LBS alumni.
However, do consider that an MIM program is not considered at par with an MBA due to the younger applicant/student pool that is also relatively less experienced. If you have crossed a certain threshold in terms of age and work experience, getting an MBA from Warwick or Imperial might be a safe and future-proof option.

Feel free to connect with me to discuss further.

Best wishes

London Business School MIM

Hi, I took my first GMAT on 23rd Dec and scored 650. The application deadline of the third round of MIM applicants is 23rd January.

I am reattempting GMAT in February. Is it wise to submit my application with my previous score or should I apply in the fourth round

Also, With my current scores I am considering Imperial college and University of Warwick. I would love to hear your reviews

Thank you

How much does applying in R4 diminish one’s chances of getting accepted? I have same situation with GMAT now and am just wondering whether it’s worth retaking it or not. Also, do schools mind how many times it took to reach the desired score? And if yes, how does it affect AdCom‘s decisions?

Responding to each of your points:

Q: How much does applying in R4 diminish one’s chances of getting accepted?

A: Fairly significantly. The numbers are not publicly available but there's an estimate that there are maybe 10% of seats remaining. Even if far fewer people apply, you're talking about very few available slots.

Q: I have same situation with GMAT now and am just wondering whether it’s worth retaking it or not.

A: You are better off waiting until the next year if you think you can really improve your score. A candidate's best bet is almost always to put forward the best application the first time including the highest possible score. If you are unlikely to approve then apply now and give it your best shot.

Q: Also, do schools mind how many times it took to reach the desired score? And if yes, how does it affect AdCom‘s decisions?

A: The general rule is try not to take it more than 3 times. Beyond that, it's technically acceptable so you won't be ruled out. It also depends on your progress, if any. If you hovered around the same score, the it probably won't matter. If you went up in score, then that could still work in your favor. If you went down, well that's probably working against you.

Hope that helps,

You are better off waiting until next year. Not only does that take the pressure off, but you'll have a chance to put together a strong application with a better score. We obviously don't know the extent of the rest of your profile, but my guess is there are probably other areas you can shore up as well.

Overall, pushing to R1 in the fall is the safer and smarter choice so long as you don't mind holding off.

Good luck,
Admissionado
