I can speak to the Liberty Mutual LDP, although things might’ve changed since I was there before 2016. Also, I didn’t go through the program, but worked with many of them.
Like most LDPs, you rank functions and then get selected. There are about 3 rotations. The options span across all business units and functions. The best landing spots are in Product Management where you get to manage a P&L for a state, and Product Research where you build the insurance products and strategies that get deployed by each state P&L owner. There are also cool groups for different functional innovation orgs, Marketing Analytics, and the in-house VC and incubator (not sure about whether these are options).
I’ve seen some people move up the ranks either at a decent pace in those functions or in an even faster pace in less “sexy” functions like Claims, Distribution, or Underwriting. I will say though that as good as the program is, success these days depends on the individual and not the fact that you’re in the program. Reason I say that is the incoming cohorts each year got pretty large and the MBA at the time got pretty saturated in middle management, so it was tougher around 2016 for everyone to get great gigs. Haven’t kept up with how they’ve been in the past 4 years. Maybe they reduced the cohort sizes, maybe the roles got better, etc. But those you’d have to research with current employees or former interns.
