I was between B & D but B makes it sound like 'chameleon' is a type of color, so eliminated B

Like the changing color of certain tropical fish, chameleons`s colors depend on the surrounding environment.

(A) chameleon`s colors depend on => plural, not parallel with singular
(B) a chameleon color depends on
(C) that of chameleons depend on => should have been "depends"
(D) a chameleon`s color depends on => parallel & correct
(E) that of a chameleon's is dependent on
