The word 'like" signals a comparison. The comparison is between "the telephone" and "the internet", so (B) and (D), which include the term "internet's representation", are incorrect.
The "As" in (C) is only correct if it is paired with a noun, as in the opening phrase of (D), 'As did the telephone". (We've ruled out (D) for other reasons, but the opening phrase could be correct.) (E) has the same problem: "as" needs to be paired with "did", which is missing in this choice. Choice (A) is correct.
