I do occasionally. It's pretty cool but it appears that not many business professionals (target audience) use it. A lot of people are listed on the site, but when I talk around only a few people have profiles.

I would not agree. I have quite some business professionals in my network who maintain their profiles and are eager to expand their network. I believe that this tool is what you make of it.

I have that too, but I think it is just another online networking site, like Friendster and MYSpace. I think only those who like surfing use it. lol.

i don't wanna speculate the bad thing, but i think one day it'll just die out, just as Friendster does.

I use it but only have a few contacts so far. It's just not used in my manufacturing industry. I do know people in other industries that have dozens of contacts though. They even go online and write recommendations for each other.

Well, I have over a hundred contacts and a few recos. I have also posted a number of recos. It is all in your hands - if you start expanding your network there's going to be more people from your industry

Orkut is another social networking site by Google. Its quite popular, though it is less formal! Check it out at https://www.orkut.com I think you need a GMAIL login to sign in.

I'd have to agree with this remark. LinkedIn is definitely what you make of it. It is very common among executives and upper level management I've noticed. As for how often it is updated and relied upon...I agree again that this depends on the user/user group, but it has a lot of potential.

LinkedIn is surprisingly powerful -- not only for the connections/interviews -- but its literally like the first or second thing on a google search when a recruiter looks you up. A strong profile goes a long way to making a good first impression.

I have used it extensively to research schools I'm considering. Although you obviously don't have every MBA grad on linkedin, you can see where alumni tend to go post-graduation, both geographically and by industry, and also get a feel for non-traditional post-MBA career paths.

It's really helped me narrow down my target schools and open my eyes to opportunities beyond MC and IB - I highly recommend it as a research tool.

Linkedin is great, I get job leads directly occassionally. The more linked in you are with other people, the more visibility your profile will have.
