So Lisa is 30 years old and Maggie is 10 years old. Which makes sense since when Lisa was 5 years younger, at 25 years old, she was five times older than Maggie who was 5 years old at the time.

A time-saving method for these types of questions is to go through the answer choices and eliminate obviously wrong ones.
Even though equations are not as complicated here, you could end up saving a good 20-25 seconds which would be helpful during solving a 700+ level question or when your brains simply do not work under pressure towards the end of the Quant section.
We have two conditions:
1. Lisa is currently thrice as old as Maggie.
2. Five years ago, Lisa was five times as old as Maggie.
Now, looking at the answer choices, we can easily eliminate the following:
A - Maggie was not born 5 years ago. Condition 2 does not hold.
B - Maggie was just born 5 years ago. Condition 2 does not hold as 0 times 5 is 0.
C - The current ages are in the ratio of 2:1 and not 3:1. Condition 1 does not hold.
For D - Condition 1 holds and when you subtract 5 from both the numbers, condition 2 holds. Bingo!
E - You can still have a look at it or skip it.
