Hi All,

I am new to the forum.
I need to take the GMAT soon. I have taken practice tests and i am soring well below where i need to be. I am pretty scared at this point and intimidated by the exam.

I have several books and have started studying through them but I not seeing improvements...am i just plain old stupid?

I have a full time (demanding ) job and unfortunately can't take time off. I want to spend a good 4 weeks of nothing but work and GMAT but i feel like i will never be able to get into the upper 600s.

Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Don't just do practice tests, do practice questions as well. Use the Official Guide and go through it, one question type at a time. Memorize/relearn the math formulas. You can do it, just clear your head.

don't follow this person's advice at all. you will need solid Q and V scores to get in the high 600's. if you are not a native speaker, of course math is your best bet, but you will still need V in the low 30's

LOL. His/her post was basically a sentence fragment regardless, so don't admonish me for its lack of clarity. It is reasonable to assume based on the post's placement that it was a response to Geetu's plea for advice. Usually questions have question marks, you know... to let you know it is a question and all. :wink:

It was also reasonable to venture a guess that Satishb isn't a native speaker and that the intended meaning was:

[understood you] Improve [your] math, not verbal.

If its intended meaning was, as you so deftly pointed out, declarative:

[I] improved [my] math but not [my] verbal.

Well, again... we can easily misconstrue the post as proffering up advice. Why else make such a statement in response to someone's plea for advice?

umm, no. Back to the drawing board with that statement. Is he advising people to study neither? Be careful of the use of negative's like 'not' especially on the GMAT (and especially so close to 'but')

what exactly are you trying to say?

'not verbal' is the logical opposite of verbal. In this context it means everything that is not verbal on the GMAT, i.e. Math and the AWA. Logical opposites are important on the GMAT... just an FYI to get you started:

the logical opposite of hot is not hot. (it is not cold!) i.e. everything that is not hot (warm, cold, freezing, lukewarm, boiling)
