Hello,
I am looking for a Masters in Finance program for Fall 2020 from the best school i can possibly get into and would like to know if I can be provided some recommendations of where i should apply. By best school i can get into i imply a school for which you would expect for me to have at least a 40% chance of getting accepted into their MIF program given my qualifications. Preferably, i am looking for 5-7 schools in the US (but an additional 2 in EU would help).
Some things about me:
Born in Dominican Republic, moved to US from 10 years old to 22. Moved back to DR post-college. Thus fully Bilingual English & Spanish (albeit write better in english)
Age:24
School: Rollins College (winter park, FL) - it is a small decent private school, though not a top-tier school by any means (2000 undergrads)
Also Studied Abroad in Madrid one summer for 6 weeks doing a small internship at a trade fair, worked in the International Student Office for my full Junior year.
GPA: 2.88 - Double Majored in International Business and Economics with a minor in Political Science. Finished December 2017 after 4.5 years.
GMAT 1st attempt (Early June) - | 670 | V35-Q47 | IR7 - W5.0 |
GMAT 2nd attempt (Early August) - | 720 | V39-Q49 | IR8 - W5.5 |
Aside from my bad GPA, i also did not participate in any significant extracurriculars in college due to the small size of school + lack of good opportunities (pretty much now groups besides frat/sport of which i wasn't part). After school, i was in a Sunday Softball league for 3 seasons but it is not disbanded. I also took one certification in Business and Financial Modeling from Coursera and hope to take two more certifications before applying.
Upon graduation, in January 2017 i started working in a Dominican firm that participates in government bids in the electricity sector. I work as a project manager that handles part of the financial side of a large 10M dollar project. I have been doing this for a total of 2 years.
Also worked in the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic for 6 weeks in a small internship that i did after the 6 week internship in the accounting of a trade fair while i was in Madrid.
Additionally I am taking CFA level I in December, i am pretty sure i will pass this exam so please assume that i also have this achievement when taking evaluation of my profile.
I just want to get into the best school possible for MIF, so if i apply to several with 40% chance i hope one will accept.
Thank you for your time.
P.S. Should i also wait for my CFA results to begin applying or should i apply in December and hope i get waitlisted until results?
