So my target school all along has been the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. I live in the greater Seattle area and ideally would like to stay here permanently after school. I took the GMAT yesterday and exceeded my expectations and hopes. I scored a 710- V40 Q48. Needless to say I was very excited to improve on my cold score of 600 a little over a month ago!

I was hoping for some suggestions of other schools to consider. Some more info on me:

Communications degree from a regional state University (GPA 3.36)
GMAT 710
Division 1 football player
Prestigious internship at the State Capitol my Sr. year
Did a cycle of campaign work immediately after graduating and then went on to work for the largest private Public Relations firm in the world (promoted once)
Currently a manager at a small business

Any thoughts? Thanks for the help! I've only really imagined UW but figured I should cast a wider net...

Oh yeah! A 710! And division1 football! They are gonna LOVE you, dude if you can serve them up a beauty of an application.

I would love to hear more about your small business and work experience at this PR firm (how many years? any leadership? greatest achievements?), as ell as any other nice extras (Church? Other religious stuff? Volunteer work? Extra currics? and so on...?). Tell me a bit about your goals too,

And I think you should be good to go for Top 20 schools. Exactly which and where will depend on your answers to the above questions.

Looking forward to hearing from you, dude!

Jon

Thanks for the response guys! More about me...

The small business is a cleaning company that I've been working at for about 6 months. I was quickly promoted to manager and we've experienced 25% growth and our sales are through the roof since i took over.

I started as an intern at the pr firm, and was promoted to Assistant Account Executive after six months. I worked on some great accounts (HP, Experian, Micron and a big state public/private partnership construction project). I was there a bit over 3 years before i had to relocate. I think my greatest achievement there was working on a product launch for a German startup.

In terms of extra currics- there was football with all conference academic and playing honors, the internship at the capitol. Outside of that, I volunteer at my churches food connection, am part of a men's group there as well.

Goals- I really would like to work in a more quant related field. I've found that i really enjoy the financial aspects of my current job and would love to move in that direction. I've also considered marketing or consulting as that maps similarly to my pr consultant experience. But no matter what industry, my ultimate goal is to move into a leadership position. I really enjoy managing people and want that to be a part of my career.

Thanks again for the input!

Allright! Sounds pretty good.

You're gonna still have to work on those goals to get them more precise. Try and think of it from the perspective of what CONCRETE job would you like to have and for what concrete company?

The more precise you can be, the more sense it will all make, and the better application you will be able to create.

Well then, good luck dude, and if you need any assistance just drop a line,
Best,
JF
