Low GMAT Score - Should I retake or work on Application 07 Dec 2015, 04:14

Have scored low on GMAT (680-Q50,V31), inspite of scoring 710 & 740 on GMAT Prep & between 690 & 730 on MGMAT.

For all MOCK CATs - Quant was between 48 & 50 - Verbal was between 36 & 40. [ Last mock given 2 weeks before GMAT].

Target Schools - Booth, Fuqua, Kellogg & LBS. (Second Round Deadline date - 5th January 2016).

Profile - Male /Indian / Engineer. Total exp - 5+ yrs. 1 year in Consulting, 4+ yrs in setting up own venture (Entrepreneur) .

Should I work on Application / Retake GMAT after 21 days & parallely work on application / Retake after 1.5 months and apply in Round 3 / Postpone MBA by one year.

ALSO If not from the target schools, would these scores be good for McDonough / Emory

You should discuss this (whether you should retake) with admissions professionals, but... when did 680 become a low score?

Hi Ajitesh, Thanks for prompt response. Its low because of the competitive group of Indian+Male+Engineer, where I come from. Would definitely get in touch with Admissions professionals of the targeted schools for help. Also kindly let me know whether McDonough/Emory can be targeted at this score.

Hi vishalsaxena,

First off, a 680/Q50 is a great score (it's just shy of the 90th percentile overall), so you should apply to any Business School that interests you. Since you've listed some highly competitive Programs, you're going to need a strong OVERALL profile AND you'll need to be sure to properly present yourself to each Program. You're ultimately asking Admissions questions, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

I think Georgetown can definitely be included. Not as sure about Emory. What I was trying to say about your score is that it's not a low score. Yes, a 720 would make everything a little "safer" for you, but you shouldn't go in thinking that you don't have a good score.
