Lyle bought used CDs at a store where all the CDs cost either $8 or $12. If Lyle bought an equal number of CDs at each price, and he spent a total of $200, what was the total number of CDs that Lyle bought?

A. 10
B. 15
C. 16
D. 18
E. 20

two types of cds are bought 8$ and 12$
and since they are equal in no. we can say that 8$ cds=12$cds
or x=y
given
8*x+12*y=200

since x=y
8*x+12*x=200
20x=200
x=10

Total cds bought would be x+y and since x=y so , x+x= 10+10 = 20 IMO E

Lyle has bought an equal number of CDs at each price is the crux. Let this be x.

So 8x + 12x = 200
20x = 200
x = 10

Hence Option (A) does it.

Back solve the question

A) 10

8*10 + 12 *10 = 200

A is our answer.

selim : hi wont the total cds be 20 ? instead of 10..
