I think this is a high-quality question and I agree with explanation. GMAT wants us to be literal and literal we have to be in this question!

I have edited the question and the solution by adding more details to enhance its clarity. I hope it is now easier to understand.

How many of the 810 new members registered on a website in June were from the USA?

(1) In June, the ratio of new members from the USA, Europe, and Asia was 4:3:2 respectively.

(2) In June, no new members were from locations other than the USA, Europe, and Asia.
Hi @Bunel ,

I think there is some flaw in the question language we do can fetch USA new members but the statement does not explicitly say that they registered for website

say we found 100 people belongs to US but how many actually registered for the website is not clear from both statement

so i chose option E.

Both the question stem and the statements mention "new members," so they clearly refer to the same group of 810 people who registered. There's no ambiguity.

Why Answer A is not correct?? As in question stem and in option A, no information about the other part of the world is given so we should assume that the given information is sufficient for answer the question.

Statement (1) not mentioning other regions does not mean there are none. It simply gives a ratio for the three named regions, nothing more. Even if you know nothing about geography and don’t know that there are other regions, you still cannot assume there are none. So without a statement saying these three groups make up the whole 810, the number from the USA can vary, so (1) cannot be sufficient.

The point is that the ratios 4:3:2 and 8:6:4 are equivalent. They represent exactly the same proportions.

If you double all parts of the ratio, the value of x simply adjusts accordingly so that the total still equals 810. You do not get a different number of USA members. The final result remains the same because the proportions are unchanged. You'd get x = 45, and USA = 8x = 360, still.
