In optimal mode, the printer prints \(x\) pages per minute.
In economy mode, it prints \(2x\) pages per minute.
Given the equation \(20x + 40*2x = 120\), we find that \(x = 1.2\).
Therefore, to print 120 pages in optimal mode, the printer will require \(\frac{120}{1.2} = 100\) minutes, which is 1 hour and 40 minutes.
