Official Solution:

If $$x$$ and $$y$$ are positive integers and $$f(x,y)$$ denotes the smallest positive integer divisible by both $$x$$ and $$y$$, then what is the value of $$f(24,36)$$ ?

A. 64
B. 72
C. 96
D. 144
E. 256

Notice that $$f(x,y)$$ represents the least common multiple (LCM) of $$x$$ and $$y$$.

Now, since $$24=2^3*3$$ and $$36=2^2*3^2$$, then the least common multiple of 24 and 36 is $$2^3*3^2=72$$.
