Official Solution:

If \(x\) and \(y\) are positive integers and \(f(x,y)\) denotes the smallest positive integer divisible by both \(x\) and \(y\), then what is the value of \(f(24,36)\) ?

A. 64
B. 72
C. 96
D. 144
E. 256

Notice that \(f(x,y)\) represents the least common multiple (LCM) of \(x\) and \(y\).

Now, since \(24=2^3*3\) and \(36=2^2*3^2\), then the least common multiple of 24 and 36 is \(2^3*3^2=72\).

Answer: B
