If a car traveled for two hours, was its average (arithmetic mean) speed in the second hour less than 100 km/h?
(1) The car traveled a total of 300 km during the journey.
If the car covered 50 km in the first hour and 250 km in the second hour, the answer is NO. Conversely, if it covered 250 km in the first hour and 50 km in the second, the answer is YES. Not sufficient.
(2) The distance covered by the car in the first hour was half of what it covered in the second hour.
This statement is clearly insufficient.
(1)+(2) Given that the distance covered by the car in the first hour was half of that in the second hour, and the total distance covered during the journey was 300 km, we can deduce that the car covered 100 km in the first hour and 200 km in the second hour. Therefore, the average speed in the second hour was 200 km/h. This leads to a NO answer to the question. Sufficient.
