Hi all,
New here
My Prof :
I am 35 M with 14.5 Years of Work Experience in one company (PSU) in middle management.
Engineer by profession.
I have been thinking off-late for doing full time EMBA from reputed top 10 india or 20 worldwide.
Funds- for int MBA - atleast 50% scholarship.
Please suggest
1. What will be the prospects of switching over to top MNCs post the EMBA?
2. Am i too old to go for MBA?
3. Is my work Ex too much?
4. please advice if i am missing any check point in going for EMBA
- Balancing 14.5 years of experience in a single PSU with aspirations for a full-time executive program is a bold move, but it can be worthwhile if you’re clear on goals and realistic about outcomes. The EMBA (or one-year executive MBA) route typically suits professionals who are already in or aiming for higher managerial or leadership positions, though funding and scholarship prospects can be more limited than in traditional MBAs. Here are a few points to consider:
- Switching to an MNC is certainly possible post-EMBA if your skills and leadership record match the role’s demands. Leverage your deep operational knowledge of the public sector as a unique perspective, and show how your advanced business education will help you drive innovation in a corporate environment. Still, EMBA programs generally have fewer structured campus placements than full-time MBAs, so proactive networking and a compelling narrative become crucial.
- Age is less of a barrier than you might think, especially for an executive-focused program. Schools value seasoned professionals for the diverse insights they bring to the classroom. What matters more is demonstrating agility, clear motivations for returning to school, and how you plan to use this education to amplify your leadership path.
- Fourteen-plus years of experience isn’t “too much”; it can be an asset if framed correctly. Many mid-career candidates pursue options like the IIM one-year executive programs, ISB’s PGPMAX, or top international EMBA offerings (e.g., INSEAD, LBS) where the average class age is in the mid-30s. These cohorts often look for seasoned leaders who can contribute immediately with robust professional perspectives. You can look at the Indian options like IIMA PGPX (full time) or ISB PGPMAX (part time).
- Don’t overlook the executive assessment or GMAT requirement (depending on the school) and be mindful of scholarship realities. Securing a 50% scholarship for an EMBA is challenging unless you bring a highly sought-after background and can articulate a clear return-on-investment to the school. Be prepared to show strong career progression, future leadership potential, and a compelling case for why you need funding.
