In a jar of 300 marbles, 98% are red. How many red marbles need to be removed to bring the percentage of red marbles down to 95%?
A. 60

Given that out of 300 marbles, 98% are red, the remaining 2%, or 6 marbles, are of some other color. We need these 6 marbles to constitute 5% (1/20) of the marbles after a certain number of red marbles have been removed. Hence, there must be a total of 6 * 20 = 120 marbles left, and thus 300 - 120 = 180 red marbles must be removed.

Total 300 marbles (let's call the colours red and blue)
98% are red -> 294 red marbles
2% are blue -> 6 blue marbles
6 blue marbles equivalent to 5% of total marbles
100% equivalent to 120 total marbles.
out of the 120, there are 120-6 = 114 red marbles
total red marbles needed to remove is 294-114 = 180
