This question is mainly testing the concept of parallelism in a list. Word "And" is an indicator of parallelism and also of list.
so, all the three items in the list should be parallel and the items are :
1) attending class
2) reading assignments
3) to write papers
Here "to write" is not parallel in construction to Attending class and reading assignments. Right answer should be writing papers. Also, we cannot add "to" for "to read assignment" because the non-underlined portion is "attending class". So, non-underlined portion guides use about the kind of parallel structure to be followed.

The underlined portion of this sentence follows a comma, includes another comma and the conjunction "and," and is preceded by the key words "such as." These clues indicate a series, in which all the elements must have parallel form. The first element is attending class. Because it is not underlined, the rest of the series must be adapted to match it. Reading assignments matches attending class, but to write does not, so (A) is out. The answer needs to replace to write with writing. Only (B) does so.
