"did possess" and "possessed" are not very different, just that "did possess" puts the emphasis on the work done.

I was stuck between C and E and the sole reason I chose C was because of the usage of the word "though"
But when reading the entire sentence -
"it was acquired after her return from France" sounds better than
"it was acquired after she returned from France"
Is there any difference between the two? Which one shall be chosen?
