Hello Friends! I'm at a bit of a crossroads in my career at the moment. I want to grow and continue to educate myself in my current role. Role change is not something I am striving for right now - rather setting up my future for success.
Age: 27
Location: Chicago
Role: Information Technology Manager at top 4 biotech companies.
8-9 years of experience in IT.
Salary with bonus 150k.
Work will cover 35k.
Just bought a house - 140k in a loan currently.
The programs I am currently looking at are the following:
Tech Degrees:
MS in Information Technology at Northwestern (50k out of pocket - in person)
Master of Computers in Information Technology at UPenn - this would be difficult to get into but would help if I wanted a CS career. (online)
Virginia Tech MIT (online)
MBA's:
Kelley (Indiana) Direct (online, would require around 50k out of pocket)
Ohio State (online, fully covered)
UCIC (Worried about the admittance and potentially waste this could become - fully covered, online)
With goals of being a director information technology or potentially a CTO at some point in the future what route sounds the best in my current situation. The reason a top school isn't on the list is because i can't justify it with my current salary. I just don't feel the ROI is there. I like the idea of staying more technical at Northwestern, but I am worried that an MBA might be more suited for big business. Any thoughts an opinions would help tremendously.
