There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
I purchased the GMAT Challenges and have done 8 of the tests. My scores have been all over the place, having scored a 90.6% on test #6 and 40.4 on test #8...I'm kinda worried that my math isn't improving..
What are your experiences? Did your scores increase over time, stay the same, or change constantly like mine? Also, what would be an effective way to study the challenges? <- Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.
I am also in the same boat..i had 70% and 90% in first 2 tests, from then onwards i am in 50% and its not improving for me..I am not even able to manage time..most of the time i am spending time on 1-2 problems for 5-6 mins and then had to guess or leave unanswered in end.. Is it still possible to hit 50 with a 50% in these challenges?
Don't worry about your percentile ranks too much. When I first started I got my ass thoroughly handed to me on a silver platter. I was consistently scoring in around 40-50%ile but then I turned the corner on test 6 with a 90%ile. From then on I hit 80+ probably three quarters of the time. The questions are hard, no doubt, but that's the whole point. These practice sets are supposed to be really difficult so that when you take the real test it doesn't seem so bad. My all time low was a 10%ile on test 12. My girlfriend was in the room watching TV and I couldn't concentrate worth a lick. You should have seen my face when my score popped up
My advice to you is to block out any and all potential distractions. No television, no music, no other windows open on your computer. Turn off your phone. Close your door. Do whatever it takes to make it just you and the test for 75 minutes. You will improve with practice!
