My understanding is that Q51 V51 should get you the 800.. considering V45 is already 99%, V51 is pretty high. There is a debrief on this forum of someone who got Q50, V51. Considering how many people score Q51... I wonder if he considers it a lost opportunity!

The Verbal and Quantitative scores range from 0 to 60. Scores below 9 and above 44 for the Verbal section or below 7 and above 50 for the Quantitative section are rare.

V45 = 99% ? I didn't get that part!

V45 is 99%tile on sectional score - anything above V45 is 99%tile on the verbal section.
For quant on the other hand is Q51. Even Q50 is 94%tile.

But you do not need 99%tile on either sections to get 99%tile on the overall score.

WTH? So could improve beyond V45? Not that I want but just curious about this %ile system. I thought the sectional scores were very much correlated to %ile. Then what does total score depend on - %ile on individual section or score on individual section; I guess and every body talks about the individual score. So how can one improve V beyond a point? It seems virtually impossible, eh?

Yes there is a correlation. Higher raw score, higher %. The point is that once you get past a certain point, on a %ile basis, you can't go any higher. In reality, V45 might be 99.2% and v51 might be 99.8%, but they get cut off at 99%
