Hello Fellow Gmat Club Members,

I wanted to ask if doing an MBA at age 21-25 is beneficial? There are a few top tier business schools (Oxford's MBA FAQ Page states minimum age as 21, MIT says they will consider applicants who just graduated, London Business School, Stanford).

But then I look at the MBA class profiles for these schools and it shows, for example, average age 27- work experience: 4-5 years. This leaves me conflicted about what the adcoms are actually looking for? Also, I managed to find a list of students admitted in the MBA class of 2016-2017 and they had strong job titles before starting the MBA, for example, at managerial levels so managerial job titles.

I am interested on hearing your thoughts.

Kind Regards,
Confused Student

Well most Ivy-league schools expect you to have work experience for a reason. When you're just starting out with your career you have no idea of how the corporate world works. As you gain experience you start to realize the different roles each department (like sales, customer service, human resources etc.) play in the running of the business. Some people then decide to go for an MBA to work their way up the corporate ladder.

So, it would be great if you have some experience. You'd also realize if MBA or further studies is really your thing.
