Hi
mikej305, thanks for writing in. It sounds like you are targeting the most competitive programs, but you have only got a bit of experience from what I can tell above (1.5 years right now?). Most top programs have average experience on entry closer to 4-5 years at matriculation, with a trajectory of increasing responsibility/promotions and/or different strong work experiences. For applying this year, we are already in R3, which is a highly competitive round with few spots at top schools, so I definitely would suggest R1 2021-22 at the earliest for you, but that's still pretty soon in terms of work experience. Is it more important for you to go to b-school soon or to aim for highly-ranked programs? Lower-ranked schools can be more forgiving about work experience...
Another thought....have you done any work to support diversity in some of your organizations? Look into the Consortium - it can be a great way to gain additional help and possible scholarship $ at great programs. Not all of the very top programs participate, but many do!
I think I need more detail on your experience and plans to offer suggested schools, but right now my advice is to wait or look a little lower on the lists...but ideally, I'd say, work longer with increasing responsibility and hopefully that promotion, retake your GMAT and get involved in a community leadership role now (not just in college), hopefully one close to your heart - and if you are looking at the Consortium, do something to promote diversity. Then apply in 2 more years and you're likely to have a whole new set of possibilities.
Hope this is helpful! Also check out our Long Term Planning Guide on our website on ways to improve your profile ahead of your application season.
Warmly,
Julie-Anne
