I am applying to Chicago GSB and they are asking for my planned concentration. Does it matter which one I choose? Are they going to scrutinize my application differently?

I am also looking into attending the Chicago GSB Live. The first event is on October 27th, after first round applications are due. At the event there is even an "Application Information Session and application overview". Do any of you have advice on whether to apply early and then attend, or hold the application until the second session?

I asked this question at a fair.

The concentration is just to get an idea of what you might want to focus on, but they are aware that people change so often, they pay, in their words "little attention to it" because "if we tried to use that to create a balanced class, it wouldn't work anyway because so many people change concentrations once they get here."

Personally, I find the info sessions are great for your apps - you get a lot of helpful information to use in your essays.

The application info session and overview is what you'd expect - a discussion on what is required, when to apply if you are an international, how the GMAT factors in, what they look for, etc. It's helpful, but not absolutely critical. If your essays are already written, and they are good, then you are probably fine to apply in R1.

They also said there is no difference in admit rates R1 vs R2, but suggested you apply in R1 or R2, not R3.

I attended a Chicago GSB information session yesterday and they said specifically that it does not matter what you select for your planned concentration, and that whatever you select they will not hold you to it.

I'm not sure what advice to give about your second question. I guess you should apply when you think your application is at its best, so if you think you can get useful information from the event you might want to wait.

The Chicago Adcom did give numbers that showed admit percentages were higher for round one than for round two, but I think this may have a lot to do with the quality of the applications in each round. In other words, many of the best candidates probably get their applications in early.
