hello guys

is it advisable to apply to full time program in US for MBA two year one with 700 if you are turning 30 soon..i am from india so internatinoal candidate with 6+ years of work exp.please advise

Hey jackon, welcome to the club.

I think it all depends on how passionate are you about your goals and how much confidence you have in your abilities to seek a big change at this point of time. There are many examples when people go for an MBA degree after being +30. You can also check the avg age of latest classes at most business schools at US. There are ranges of 22-38 with an avg age of 28 for most schools. (You can confirm this from US school dashboard in my signature).

BTW, I am 30 as well with 3 kids and looking for an international MBA. :)

Many people in MBA programs are 29 or 30. The average age seems to be around 27-28.

There are also people applying who are much younger or older.

The point is, it depends on whether or not it will benefit you professionally and personally. I would look into what you are planning on doing career-wise and see if an MBA is a degree that is highly-valued in that path (either from a qualification or networking standpoint). An MBA is generally not for someone who is completely unclear about the next step they want to take.

As far as your GMAT and nationality - I'm not sure how it applies to whether or not you should apply to an MBA program. That being said, if you are looking to get into a "top" program, it would be difficult with that GMAT and your ethnicity, unless you can differentiate yourself somehow.

In addition to the above comments, I think it's also important to consider the attitude of individual schools. Harvard, for example, seems to have an admissions 'sweet spot' at around 2-3 years' work experience, and the number of admits declines quite rapidly thereafter.

Do your research, particularly looking at the age / work experience bellcurves. Of course, if you are an exceptional candidate then age should not be a problem at any institution... but by familiarising yourself with individual institutions' (unofficial) attitudes to age, then you can optimise your chances.

You might be surprised to know that you will fill in the most common age bracket at most of the business schools in the US. This may be different in B schools in India such as IIMs as they tend to take a lot of freshers while in the US, work exp is almost required, if not compulsory! So keep age aside and apply with full force.
