muggergammy there is no such profile with adequate work experience that we can say for certain will not receive an interview call. Your experience overall is good enough for you to have gained exposure in the business world and figure out your likes and dislikes.

That said, an MBA application requires you to understand yourself in much more depth and explain your career plans moving forward. It is important to summarise your defining traits, pivotal moments, and interests. The clearly you are able to connect this narrative with the particular B-school you will be able to understand your chances better.

It would be great if you can get in touch with MBA alums and admissions experts from your B-schools of interest to understand what the program looks for and the options ahead. This will help you to figure out the outcome you are looking for and plan accordingly.

On this basis alone, you should be fine. Having experience to these other functional areas - even if not in your current role - gives you credibility to speak to what you want/need to learn in an MBA program to achieve your short- and long-term goals.

As noted above, every application takes into account multiple factors and functional experience is one of them. If you only had technical implementation that might make things more difficult, but that's not the case here.

Hi All,

I have a question w.r.t to the MBA application profile.

My current role at my organization is of an individual contributor which doesn't involve any management/leadership work such as team/client management and project management, it is purely technical implementation. My previous role was at a different organization where my role was 50% Project/Team management, 45% Technical Implementation and 5% client management (optional).

Does this type of profile stand a low chance of getting an interview call/selection?

Thanks.

Hello muggergammy,

Apologies for a delayed response but we hope this finds you in time still.

The Ad Com evaluates any profile in a holistic fashion and there are various segments - GMAT score, professional experience, extra-curricular engagement, etc that make up this whole.

Often, leadership can be showcased through situations one has gone through even as someone who has not been in a formal leadership role. Try to think of such situations. That said, a combination of your past exposure to a managerial position and present exposure to a core technical role should be alright; needless to say, the same has to be put forth in a compelling manner.

All the best!
