Hello,
I am interested in attending an MBA program but I'm not sure what I want to do post MBA yet. Does it look bad on an application to say that I want to go to the best school possible and spend the first year researching my options figuring out what I love and then second year coming up with a plan and a future career? Or is it a better option to spend some time researching on my own and picking a MBA major prior to applying then switch if I change my mind.

Considering the fact that you'll go into an interview process at pretty much all top programs, it will certainly hurt you if you can't create a compelling story of why that school will benefit you. From my understanding and personal research, these programs want to minimize risk and choose applicants they feel will have the highest chance of succeeding post-grad. With that being said (in their eyes at least), they're looking for someone who knows exactly why their program will help the applicant excel. In addition, why the applicant would be a good bet for the program to take.
I'm in a very similar position as you. Currently, I'm working with people to create the best and most feasible story. It seems like the best applications have a sensible goal that is challenging yet feasible whether or not the applicant truly intended to follow route. Hope this answer helps.

What makes you think that an MBA is even the right path for you if you don't know what you want to use it for? It's a very expensive way to find out what you want to do.
To answer your question (bluntly), no top school will admit you if you say you're still exploring. You could say you're exploring between two similar career paths.
