Hello everyone,
I am interested in getting a MBA. What career options are there with a MBA for someone who is not interested in Finance/Accounting? I double majored in Psychology and Neuroscience in undergrad. I was premed at the time but decided against medical school. I graduated a few years ago and have 2 years of research experience and 3-4 years experience working at various non-profits. I want to transition out of the non-profit sector but not don't have clearly delineated goals. I know I don't have an interest in Finance or Accounting either. What options would there be for me with a MBA? The reason I want to go back to school is I am having a hard time getting any jobs that are not research or non-profit right now.

Hey there good sir,
Well the most obvious would be management within the medical/pharma industries, given your experience. The MBA is contrary to what some believe not a finance/accounting program, but a leadership/management one. So if you were to propose goals which entailed leadership within the industry in which you have experience, they would be pretty good.
I should also add that pharma and bio industries have been pretty "Hot" in the last years at MBA programs, so they might even be BETTER goals.

Thanks for your background. MBAs bring lots of opportunities to all sorts of backgrounds. Granted, yours is a nontraditional one, but one that we can still build a great story around. To answer your question, common functional roles out of an MBA program include marketing managers, corporate strategists, roles in HR, operations managers, entrepreneurs, and many more. These jobs exist across all industries including healthcare, life sciences, energy and utilities, travel and transportation, retail, media, and entertainment just to name a few.
One thing I recommend is for you to take the time to reflect on your goals and think about what it is you want to do. So put on a pot of joe, do some research, and see where you see yourself in a few years. Best of luck with your planning!
