Hi,
I am 29, Indian, male, engineer. I am a Data Analyst with work ex of almost 4years.
I was planning to apply for MBA 2023 in R1 but due to some personal reasons I won’t be able to catch the R1 deadlines. I am planning a career switch from Analytics to Finance and apply in R2. Will it be a problem during my admissions as I will be completely new to Finance?
How different is the academic timeline for people admitted in R1 from those admitted in R2?
If I make a career switch, will I be considered a fresher when applying for jobs??

I don't think switching careers will make you a fresher. People do that all of the time, plus the finance department could always use some analytical skills and you might use them to your advantage. Let's have expert insight into your query.

You will not be considered a fresher if you make a career switch. However, I suggest a job change will only help if you are picking something in line with your post mba goals, and if it's the same job at a bigger company, then it puts in the question of how much you want/needs an MBA to get to the next step. A powerful case may be made for staying in your present job, even if it isn't one that the top B-Schools prefer. We have assisted numerous MBA applicants who did not come from a prestigious background to gain admission to their preferred school. It all boils down to your application's overall story and brand.
