Preferably how many years experience does one need to apply to at the minimum a top 50 business university. I have a year and a half in operations, worked in a restaurant, and was an athletic coach. How would one view this?

The WE requirement is usually at least 2 years at the time of matriculation, so if you have 18 months right now, that's 30 months potentially at matriculation.
However, most schools prefer 3-5 to establish a track record and trajectory.
As to your background, schools do like diverse backgrounds but more improtant are achievements and initiative. Have you accomplished things or were you just doing crap to survive? Tip: You want to write that you accomplished things while you were in a restaurant and an athletic coach

Thank you for your response and yes I have had a few accomplishments in both jobs in which things that had not been accomplished before. I am worried that sports is different from the other type of job that I have worked in. Being in operations I want to transition toward a more analyst, consult, or financial services role.
