CANDIDATE: PV, India QUALIFICATION: BSc. Economics And Finance, Ashoka University PRE-MBA INDUSTRY: PE/VC EXPERIENCE: 4 years GPA: 3.65/4 GRE/GMAT: 730 (GMAT) ADMITTED TO: Kellogg School of Management
Building a Deep Tech Story That Led to the Kellogg School of Management
Background Raised in a joint family in Chennai, PV was influenced by diverse perspectives and close bonds with his grandparents and siblings. Inspired by his father and grandfather, he developed a deep love for cars, planes and squash, earning national medals and international exposure. A back injury cut short his plans to pursue his undergraduate studies in the US through a sports scholarship. Instead of following the conventional engineering route, he made a late but intentional decision to attend Ashoka University, drawn to its liberal arts model, interdisciplinary learning, and opportunities to explore different academic paths. There, he discovered economics and built a strong analytical foundation. After stints at E&Y and Anicut Capital, he found his passion for early-stage venture capital, particularly in deep-tech startups focused on mobility, climate, and healthcare. Leading investments and evaluating biotech ventures revealed the power of technology backed by thoughtful capital. He decided to pursue an MBA to refine his venture capital toolkit and gain access to a global network of industry leaders and peers in the space. He came to us for guidance in crafting a compelling application that showcased his long-standing commitment to enabling deep tech innovation.
Approach We guided him through focused conversations to reflect on his path and recognize shared hurdles in deep tech investing, like protracted R&D cycles and slow time-to-market. We also helped him clarify his long-term goal of launching a deep tech fund and articulate the skills and experiences that position him to achieve it. To strengthen his application, we highlighted specific experiential learning opportunities and global treks that would help him bridge the gap toward achieving that goal.
Key Takeaway Our guidance helped him connect the dots across his investment experience, craft an authentic story around tackling those challenges through an MBA, and successfully gain admission to Kellogg.
