A number of business schools have recently added a new component to their MBA application process; the MBA video interview or essay. INSEAD, Kellogg and Yale all include an MBA video interview in their requirements for MBA applicants, just to mention a few of the business schools that have transitioned to this modern approach for applications.
Typically, in a video interview/essay, the applicant is provided with one or several questions, as well as some time to think about them (around a minute, 30 seconds, or similar per question) and is then expected to provide the school with a recorded answer.
Applicants are not expected to prepare for the MBA video essays and there is no “right” answer. Instead, the schools are hoping applicants who may not be very good on paper will have a chance to shine and show parts of themselves and their personality that are not seen elsewhere in their traditional application.
