Depends on what you want to do

If you dream to go to HSW maybe it's best to go to Olin and try your luck later after some work exp

If you just want to work in Finance, Mccombs (I didn't go there but people who went call it the Ivy of Public School) might be the better choice here although Olin MSF is very solid

Mccombs basically rules the TX job market and the Financial Services market down here is strong (I'm from TX). IB, elite boutiques, PE, hedgefund all hire people from Mccombs. Also most people graduate from MSF apply to Analyst position while MBA apply to Associates. You will also get a summer internship from Mccombs timeline which help with recruiting

Thank you emancipated123!
I'm considering Olin's MSF program - corporate finance track. One thing I'm concerned is that I heard the neighborhood isn't very safe there. I want to work in the US after I graduate, in the corporate finance field. I know that the bigger finance cities are New York and Chicago. How's the placements in the program? DId you find the program a good investment?

Hi Christine,

Sorry for the delayed response. The campus is safe. I actually never had a problem in general but East St. Louis should be avoided at all costs. I don't have much of a clue about the Texas program but Olin is a solid program with good placement. It was definitely worth the investment from my point of view as I felt like I learnt way more in 1 year than I learnt in all 4 years of undergrad even though I went to a pretty reputed understand business school.

Placements although are mostly in the midwest and only a couple in NYC. Chicago is very achievable from Olin MSF. If you would like to Investment Banking there are a few people who get bulge brackets jobs every year but most end up a boutiques.

I actually went a completely different route and ended up working in Venture Capital in Asia. Let me know if you wanna know something more.

Best,
