Hey GMAT Clubbers!
You've given amazing advice and I'm hoping to get some more to address my first world problem of choosing an MBA program.
Any help is sincerely appreciated. Thanks in advance for your guidance and let me know if I can clarify anything.
About me:
-Bachelor's/Master's in Materials Science
-Been working in the Bay Area for 3 years by Fall 2016
-No scholarship $, but I know that McCombs will be slightly less costly
-Location preference for post MBA (if I have to choose): Southeast is a close first, south and west coast is a close 2nd and mid-west and north-east is last as the cold is not ideal
My goals:
-Continue developing my leadership/communication skills
-Gain a greater awareness of business issues/environments
-Short term: Management consulting (leaning towards energy/sustainability/clean-tech but not 100%)
-Alternative short term: Product management/marketing (unsure of the industry)
-Goals are based on a desire to use my technical background and soft skills I gain during the MBA
Thoughts on the schools:
-Both are ranked #16
-Both have genuine students, engaging faculty, rigorous curricula and caring support staff (adcom/career mgt)
-Both have great alumni network (McCombs being stronger in the south and UNC being strong in the south-east) but reach extends throughout the US
-Both places are welcoming, located in a pleasant locale with their own charm and have public transportation
-Recruiters from top consulting/marketing firms come to both places
Differences:
-UNC has career mentors (2nd year MBA students) to guide incoming students
-UNC Energy faculty are all from the industry
-Austin is a more vibrant city and centrally located
-Only attended UNC visit weekend (Austin is upcoming)
-UNC deadline is this Friday (4/15/16) and Austin's is 4/28/16
