Hi everybody ,

I am a mechanical engineer with 12 years of core technical experience in power sector.I am at present working in the capacity of principal engineer in the research wing of a leading MNC.I also have worked for 1.5 years in Europe.
My questions are :
- I now want to move to management is it okay to do a one year mba at this time (i am 33 yrs old).Is my profile suitable for a good b school.

-Since all my experience is technical is it possible to use it to my advantage after i finish my mba.(do the experience requirement for mba institute has to be management oriented?).

-which specialisation in mba will suit my background and which institute should i target for that(In India and abroad)

-what gmat score should be enough to enter these institute.

Looking forward to have opinion/advice of others on this.

Regards
R.k

There are plenty of people your age or older that go back for an MBA and so I would not consider your age or experience a reason not to attend.

I think the biggest question that needs to be answered in order to accurately address your remaining questions, would be why do you want an MBA and why now? You do mention about wanting to go into management, but that is just too generic. Be specific about the function and role that you are looking for post-MBA and how you'll use an MBA to get there.

Once you can sufficiently answer that the picture will become much clearer as to:
A) What type of program is best suited for you
B) Which schools you should apply to
C) What types of GMAT scores you should be aiming for
D) Any other next steps that need to be taken

You can gain more experience having joined the Industrial training which is based on basic to advanced level like 4/6/weeks/months basis. If you are looking in Lucknow then visit at CETPA which gives placement oriented training in Mechanical as well as other latest technologies.
