Will the real slim shady please stand up!
I am going to keep it simple.
I am a Mechanical Product Engineering, originally from Mumbai, India and came to US to pursue my Masters, again in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated in May 2011 and have been working ever since. Aiming to apply for Fall 2015 MBA and have GMAT in 30 days time. I am quite confused about the prospects of going Full time and part time. Total experience while pursuing MBA would hence be about 4.5 years.
Well, certainly it looks to me like there is a definite advantage in pursuing FT over PT with respect to networking, job prospects and just the overall experience of going through the process of pursuing the MBA seems to be a whole lot better. But, unfortunately, VISA issues force me to lean more towards part time as I do not have the stipulated 12 month OPT post MBA since I have used it during my Masters.
My goal for pursuing MBA is simple and I am not going to say anything fake here: I want more money, I want a higher position after 10 years and most important of all, I want to change from Product Design (Mechanical) to a completely different field (Finance or Consulting Management)Now the questions: Is it possible in a part time MBA or Is it worth taking the risk for a full timeBeing in Michigan, I have an advantage of Ross school of business nearby and if I score well in GMAT, I think my probability of getting in, increases. I don't want to sound over-confident but then there is nothing wrong in being positive and optimistic in life and I guess that's why we all look towards something more while pursuing MBA. So Assuming I get into Ross, how good would it serve to pursue a PT MBA if I want to achieve the mentioned goals.
I would like to achieve some clarity about the two and I am not yet there to connect the dots.
Steve Jobs famously mentioned " You can only connect the dots looking back in your life". So, please if there are people here, who have connected the dots well using their experience and wisdom, please advise me on the do's and the dont's
