Most of the times GMAT is allergic to "being", so A and B are out.

For the Subject-Verb agreement we need "grows"

So D it is.

D on SVA.

Being is pretty much always wrong. - so A & B out

The mountain cornfloss,..., grows - so C & E are out.

The mountain cornfloss, native to the Rocky Mountains from Colorado to Canada and thought of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow on steep ledges and in deep cracks on remote mountaintops.

of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow
of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grows
to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow
to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grows
of as the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow

ACE wrong, SVA

I like D, more concise . . . is it an idiom?

Nicely explained.
