Michael Witzel determined at the age of seven to find the site of ancient Harappan Civilization and devoted his consequent career to do it.

A. devoted his subsequent career to do it
B. has devoted his subsequent career to do that
C. devoted his subsequent career to such an end
D. has devoted his subsequent career for that
E. devoted his subsequent career to that end

Typo in first sentence "consequent".

I believe we would use perfect present 'Has' here since it happened some time before now.

So that leaves B and D.

I don't know which is better. I will guess B.

A for me...
Parallelism is the main issue here... devoted has to be parallel with determined... This eliminates B and D...
In C and E, we have "to such an end" and 'to that end'...
Both these alter the meaning...

Left with A...

E

"it" can only refers to nouns, not actions.
Present perfect changes the original meaning of the sentence.

Metallica fan is right.... 'it' in GMATland replaces only nouns and not actions....
C is incorrect because of 'such'... A is out bcoz of 'it'....
Left with E....

I agree present perfect changes the meaning but wouldn't "devoted" mean he is now dead, or done working.

And I thought since we don't know that, we need to use present perfect.
