Well, the decisions are all in, and I'm a bit torn on what I should do. Michigan has offered $20K per year and Indiana has offered a full tuition scholarship. Essentially, it means Michigan would cost around an extra $50K to attend their program. I intend to return to the Twin Cities to pursue a career in Corporate Finance upon finishing my MBA. Michigan offers a few more opportunities with TC companies, but I'm confident I could obtain a similar position out of Kelley. Would I be crazy to turn down that much money from a school that is in the top 10? I have to keep reminding myself that I am in an extremely envious position, and that I really can't go wrong. I agree w/ Lepium, all about risk minimizing.

If you evaluate the placement numbers maybe you will see that Ross and Kelley both placement a similar percentage of their students in the types of companies and positions you are interested in. Or maybe the numbers will tell you something else.

I think that for 50k more, taking Ross in the case that you may change career paths is the more prudent choice. Though not as national as HWS, Michigan is a very strong name, should you choose to move on to a different career choice, which the MBA can afford.

Good point, if you might change careers then the brand name of the MBA could make a difference.

That is definitely part of the equation on the Ross side of things. However, I've more or less ruled out the consulting/I-banking side of things. The travel/hours are not my cup of tea.

I think the other option would be doing something on the strategy side internally for a company, this is where Ross would have some advantages.

Doesn't everyone say that the brand name means less and less when you are out of school and your performance on the job becomes the main issue?

I guess I am trying to look at things from a bit different perspective than most people on this board traditionally do.

Get thee to campus.

I am in a non-traditional field for MBAs, and plan to stay that way. A well-regarded school is great, and like you, I hope to have several options which will range through the elite and trans-elite. You can only second-guess your career options and plans so far. But what about the experience of business school? I knew I wanted an advanced degree, and an mba made the most sense. But part of getting an advanced degree was enjoying the experience of it, of being back in school, of learning, and expanding my horizons. This stuff is impossible to quantify, but an important part of it is fit with the student body, teaching style, social opportunities, electives, etc.

I am just so touchy-feely it makes me sick, but that's what it will come down to for me.

As a Michigan alum undergrad I will always say go to Michigan. It was definitely a great experience for me and if you love football there's nothing like walking into a packed Big House.
