Hi,
I am pretty new to GMAT club. I want to thank everyone participating as it is a great resource as I prepare for the test.
My question is I am considering weekend crash courses to prepare for the GMAT. Does anyone have any recommendations? Do these crash courses actually improve your score as much as a regular length courses or individual preparation?
I am looking into the MLIC turboprep or 3-day weekend courses in NYC. Has anyone had any experience or heard anything about them? How about PowerScore?
I am currently in the 550-600 range, looking to score in the mid to high 600's.

Sometimes I wonder how useful these 3 day courses can be. Ever try to fill up a cup with water from a faucet that is pouring water? It's difficult to retain all the water as opposed to pouring it slowly into the cup.
A lot of these prep courses prey on your fears. IMHO, the shorter the course, the less you will retain.

My suggestion to you is to stay away from a 3day course. Think about it rationally - where you able to learn anything well in only 3 days? I would argue that it takes at least a month to cover all the concepts tested on the GMAT. Of coarse, if you are working very long hours and you do not have any time to study, then a 3 day course is better than nothing. But if you can dedicate some time during the weekdays (ideally, more time during the weekends), then I do not recommend the course.
Arguably, there are a few exceptions. Some people have reported very high scores after only a week of study time. I think it really depends on you - that is, how prepared you are at this moment before the course? Do you feel that you will benefit from this course? What do you plan to gain from it? What I am saying is that no one can tell you what is best for you. But common sense would suggest that you examine your choice carefully - sometimes, the longer way is the better way.
