Hi,

Official CATs reflect one's true ability, so you can set your goal per the results of official mocks. I hope you are going to have some invaluable ideas from experts.

Best Wishes!
Hi sjuniv32

Thank you for your reply.
The fluctations among the scores made me sad, to be honest. But, I'll do my best not to get discouraged.

Dear melikcankanat ,

Your verbal score is consistent in mocks !! Quant has Quant is varying between 44-48!!
Will suggest you give more official GMAT mocks. I have seen scores varying +/- 30 from mock tests score.

Hi melikcankanat,

There are a variety of factors that can impact your performance on a CAT/mock (and on the Official GMAT), including the type of Exam that you're using, the time of day that you start the Exam, the testing conditions, how well-rested you are, if you had seen any of the questions before, etc. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? Are these CATs/mocks the only ones that you have taken?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Rich,

Thank you for your kind reply.

In the official mock exams, there were total 4 repeated question. I have been studying for 6 months, but my only focus was not the GMAT. Since the beginning of July I have been working at least 5 hours a day.
My study materials are the official guides and gmat club question bank. I took all of the mocks in the last week.
My overall goal is 730-750.
I will apply for mim programs in LBS or HEC Paris. My plan was to apply for round 1, but the plan has changed. So I will use r2 or r3.

Hi melikcankanat,

You have already got ideas on the factors that impact CAT's score from EMPOWERgmatRichC's post, so don't get demotivated and just keep your spirit high. Consider attempting some more official tests.

Good Luck!

Hi melikcankanat,

A CAT is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically shouldn't take more than 1 CAT per week - and your last CAT should be taken about 1 week before Test Day. Going forward, you really shouldn't take more than 1 FULL CAT per week.

The variations in these results are likely due to a mix of lucky/unlucky guesses, little mistakes (that you either made or did not make on individual Tests) and any time you saw any 'repeat' questions (since seeing any prompts that you already know the answer to will likely lead to an 'inflated' score result). In addition, it's not clear how rigorous you were about making sure that you took these CATs in a fashion that matches-up with how you will take your Official GMAT. All that having been said, these overall results imply that your content knowledge is good and your likely 'ability level' is probably right around a 700.

If you're not planning to apply until Round 2, then you have plenty of time to continue studying. Since you know the specific Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

If you're interested in some additional study materials, then I'd be happy to offer some suggestions.
